Легендарная героиня Войны за независимость [Revolutionary War]. Настоящее имя - Мэри Людвиг Хэйс Макколи [McCauley, Mary Ludwig Hays] (девичье имя и фамилия по первому и второму мужу). Получила свое прозвище (pitcher - кувшин), так как подносила воду раненым солдатам Континентальной армии [Continental Army] во время сражения при Монмуте [Monmouth, Battle of] (1778). Согласно легенде, приняла участие в бою в качестве канонира, заменив погибшего мужа. Получала пожизненную пенсию от властей Пенсильвании. Аболиционисты [abolitionists] использовали прозвище "Молли Питчер" по отношению к Х. Табмэн [Tubman, Harriet]
